Hello! My name is Victoria but people often call me Vicky or Vic (I was ‘Squidge’ to my Dad when I was a young ‘un and I have also been called ‘Squirrel’ a fair few times. I love squirrels so that’s cool with me!) I hope you love my book, Little Birds in Cages which is for teens but really, it’s for everyone! It’s set in 1990 and so if you’re a certain age, you might enjoy all the music references in the story!

A bit about me!

I was born in Hastings, UK and grew up in sunny Northampton, where there is not a sea pebble in sight but some lovely parks and outdoor spaces and some very wonderful people indeed.

Since I can remember, I wanted to be a teacher and a writer and a musician and a… the list continues! I’m a published author, qualified English and Performing Arts teacher of nearly three decades and also an artist, composer, poet and singer-songwriter. Sometimes, I love doing so many different things that I don’t know how to choose! Life really is like a box of chocolates! Oh, and I LOVE chocolate! I currently live in Tokyo, Japan and teach Music at a fabulous international school!

The Why

Everything I do, whether it’s music, books, teaching… it’s all about nurturing a sense of happiness and wellbeing.

I’ve loved reading and writing stories since I was very young. My Dad used to tell me the same tale every night before bed, about a mouse who stole some cheese from the fridge of a terribly grumpy cat! The cat ended up sharing a tiny morsel of his precious stash with the mouse and learned how to be kind, considering others before himself. I think my Dad must have told me that story well over a thousand times.

My best ever Christmas present was a blue type-writer from my parents and I’d spend hours typing out poems and stories and reading them to my teddies (and anyone else who’d listen!)

I am so grateful that I always had amazing English teachers and I will never, ever forget their guidance (and gold stars!) What I remember most about all of them, is that they all encouraged me to write stories and they spent a lot of time reading them and giving such great and constructive feedback. They made me feel as if one day, I could share my stories with the world! I believe that everyone who wants to do this, can!

If you read Little Birds in Cages and you feel it will help others, why not write a review and share it with others! Thanks for reading and wishing you moments of joy today!
